The Prophetic Church Of Laodicea
by Pastor/Evangelist Len Hutsell
This article has been viewed 1229 times.

In my "End-Times Trumpet" articles of March, April, and May (2014) I wrote about the prophetic significance of the first 3 of the "Seven Churches" of Rev. 2-3 (in that since these "Seven Letters To The Seven Churches" are in a "Book Of Prophecy" — Rev. 1:3 / Rev. 22:19 — they are therefore prophetical in content) which were:

     1) "The Prophetic Church Of Ephesus" — (Rev. 2:1-7) — which was prophetic of the "Early Apostolic Era Of Church History";

     2) "The Prophetic Church Of Smyrna" — (Rev. 2:8-11) — which was prophetic of the "Late Apostolic and Post-Apostolic Era of Church History";

     3) "The Prophetic Church Of Pergamos" — (Rev. 2:12-17) — which was prophetic of the "Pre-Catholic Era of Church History".

Then in the month of August 2014 I wrote about the 4th of the "Seven Churches" which was:

     4) "The Prophetic Church Of Thyatira" — (Rev. 18-29) — which was prophetic of the "Catholic Era of Church History".

In the months of January and February 2015 I wrote about the next two — the 5th and 6th — of the "Seven Churches" which were

     5) "The Prophetic Church Of Sardis" — (Rev. 3:1-6) — which was prophetic of the Protestant Era of Church History;

     6) "The Prophetic Church Of Philadelphia" — (Rev. 3:7-13) — which was prophetic of the Full Gospel/Fundamentalist/Pentecostal/Charismatic Era of Church History.

Now in this months "End-Times Trumpet" — August/September 2015 — I want to write about the 7th and final of the "Seven Churches Of Rev. 2-3" — the "Prophetic Church Of Laodicea" — which is prophetic of the "Lukewarm Success and Prosperity Gospel Churches" of the "last days".

Rev. 3:14 — "And unto the Angel" (Pastor) "of the Church of Laodicea write:"

The name Laodicea is taken from two Greek words — "laos" which means "people" — and "dike" which means "manner, right, custom, or requirement" and thus the meaning of the name "Laodicea" is "requirement or manner of the people". This, then, denotes the "last days" "church era" when the people will — as is foretold in the prophecy of II Tim. 4:3-4 — "not endure sound doctrine, but after their own lusts they will heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears, and thus will turn away their ears from the truth and will be turned to fables." This, we will see, is characteristic of much of the "church world" of today that preaches the "Success and Prosperity Gospel".

Eskihisar

The ancient Biblical city of Laodicea was about 40 miles east of the city of Ephesus. The remains of ancient Laodicea, which is now only in ruins, is located today near the modern city of Denizli in Turkey. Laodicea, which was given its name by a Syrian King — Antiochus II Theos — who named it "Laodicea" in honor of his wife "Leodice", had at one time been an extremely wealthy banking center, which symbolized the "Success and Prosperity Gospel" Mega-Churches of these "last days" which seem to be fulfilling the prophecy to the "Laodicean Church" of being "rich and increased with goods". Laodicea also had a Medical School and manufactured a powder for the treatment of eye problems, which fits the Lord's prophetic admonition to the Church of Laodicea to "anoint thy eyes with eye salve that thou mayest see" which also seems to symbolize the fact that while many of the "Mega-Churches" of these "last days" preaches the "Success and Prosperity Gospel", they seem not to see that the "true riches" is that which comes from a genuine relationship with the Lord, which they seem "blinded" to and need to have their "spiritual eyes" opened to see.

As can be seen by these pictures ancient Laodicea is now only a ruins which is a symbol of the modern "Success and Prosperity Gospel" churches which are in "spiritual ruins" in that they no longer preach the "Full Gospel Message" of "Born-Again Salvation" and the "Baptism In The Holy Spirit".

Another characteristic of ancient Laodicea is that rich garments were manufactured there which is why the Lord admonished the "Success and Prosperity Gospel" churches of this "Laodicean Church Era" to "buy of Me white raiment that you may be clothed that the shame of your" (spiritual) "nakedness does not appear." Laodicea was also very pleasure-conscious with a huge race track and three lavish theatres which was prophetic of the fact that II Tim. 3:4 prophesies that "in the last days" "men will be lovers of pleasure rather then lovers of God" which seems to characterize many of the people who attend the "Success and Prosperity Gospel" Mega-Churches of these "last days".

The Church of Laodicea is believed to have been started by an "early days Christian" named Epaphras who was a ministry companion to the Apostle Paul who Paul mentions in Col. 4:12-13 — "Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, salutes you, always laboring fervently for you in prayers...he has a great zeal for you and for those who are at Laodicea."

The city of Laodicea was destroyed by the Muslim Mohammed and his army and, as can be seen, all that remains of the once great city of Laodicea now are ruins.

The "last days" "Laodicean Church Era" (the "Success and Prosperity Gospel" churches) evolved out of the Fundamentalist/Full Gospel/Pentecostal/Charismatic Era of Church History (prophetically symbolized by the prophetic "Church Of Philadelphia") just as the Late and Post-Apostolic Era of Church History (the Prophetic Church Of Smyrna) evolved out of the Apostolic Era of Church History (the Prophetic Church Of Ephesus), and just as the Pre-Catholic Era of Church History (the Prophetic Church Of Pergamos) evolved out of the Late and Post Apostolic Era of Church History (the Prophetic Church Of Smyrna), and just as the Catholic Era of Church History (the Prophetic Church Of Thyatira) evolved out of the Pre-Catholic Era of Church History (the Prophetic Church Of Pergamos), and just as the Protestant Era of Church History (the Prophetic Church Of Sardis)evolved out of the Catholic Era of Church History (the Prophetic Church Of Thyatira), and just as the Fundamentalist/Full Gospel/Pentecostal/Charismatic Era of Church History (the Prophetic Church Of Philadelphia) evolved out of the Protestant Era of Church History (the Prophetic Church Of Sardis).

Rev. 3:14 (cont.) — "...these things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the Creation of God."

In this Verse we see the Lord reveals Himself in 3 different ways (or classifications) to the "last days" "Laodicean Church Era" Christians:

1) "The Amen" — the word "Amen" means "so be it" and it is a word that is also used to close a prayer with, and thus this shows that Christ is and has the "final Word". His Word is "forever established in Heaven".

2) "The Faithful and True Witness" — Christ is also referred to in this way in Rev. 19:11 where He is called "Faithful and True".

3) "The Beginning Of The Creation Of God" — this does not mean that Christ was the first One created but rather that He was the "Beginner" "of the Creation of God", for — as Col. 1:15-17 states — "all things were created by Him, and He is before all things, and by Him all things consist."

Rev. 3:15-16 — "I know your works that you are neither cold nor hot; I wish you were either cold or hot.
     "So then because you are lukewarm and you are neither cold or hot I will spue"
(spit) "you out of my mouth."

As we will see in this study, the "Laodicean Era Churches" evolved out of the previous "Philadelphian Era Churches" and the "Philadelphian Era Churches" (which, by the way, will continue to co-exist with the Laodicean Era Churches" up to the time of the "Rapture Of The Church") was what was characterized by the "Revival Era" that brought into existence the Fundamentalist/Full-Gospel/Pentecostal/Charismatic Churches and it is out of the churches of that Era of Church History that the "Success and Prosperity Gospel" Churches (prophetically symbolized by the Prophetical Church Of Laodicea) evolved, and because the "Success and Prosperity Gospel" Mega-Churches evolved out of the Fundamentalist/Full Gospel/Pentecostal/Charismatic Churches they still "have a form of godliness" but have gotten away from preaching the "Full Gospel Message" of Born-Again Salvation and the Baptism In The Holy Spirit, but instead have begun majoring on preaching the "Success and Prosperity Gospel" accompanied with "Rock and Roll Style" Contemporary Worship Music complete with "fuzz guitar" and strobe lights.

As the Lord looks at these "Success and Prosperity Gospel" Churches of the "last days" it makes Him sick to the stomach because they no longer preach against sin or take a stand against sin, nor do they promote "holiness without which no man shall see God", but instead the congregations and even many of the Pastors of these "Success and Prosperity Gospel" Churches do just about everything that the sinners of the World do. They take no stand against smoking or drinking and in fact many of them even participate in those practices, and they pipe immorality into their homes through cable-TV premium channels and set for hours and view those programs, and then still go to church and go through the motions of "worshiping the Lord" (in essence: "playing church"). This is why the Lord says that they are "neither cold nor hot" which means that they are not "all out" for the World, but neither are they "all out" for God.

The way in which the "last days" "Laodicean Christians" will be "spued out" by the Lord is that they will be "left behind" when the Trumpet of the Lord sounds and Jesus returns for His true "born-again" and "Spirit-filled" believers in the event of the Rapture.

Rev. 3:17 — "Because you say: I am rich and increased with goods and have need of nothing' and you do not know that you are really wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked."

The statement made here that the "Laodicea Church Era" Churches say "I am rich and increased with goods and have need of nothing" shows that the Prophetical Church Of Laodicea is prophetic of the "last days" "Success & Prosperity Gospel" Churches and Preachers, who specialize in preaching on "contemporary issues" rather then "spiritual issues" and who preach and promote the "Success & Prosperity Gospel": the message that God will make you "successful and prosperous" in your ventures in life.

While the "last days" "Success & Prosperity Gospel" Churches and Preachers think that they are "rich and increased with goods and have need of nothing", God says that their true spiritual condition is that they are:

1) Wretched — because while they preach "success & prosperity" many of them are not even sure that they are going to end up in Heaven because they are trying to live "with one foot in the World and one foot in the Kingdom of God".

2) Miserable — because they cannot truly enjoy the "pleasures of sin for a season" because they feel convicted in their minds and heart when they are engaging in the "pleasures of sin" because they know that God is not pleased with the life that they are living.

3) Poor — because the "true riches" come from a genuine relationship with Christ which many of them are lacking.

4) Blind — because they cannot spiritually "see" what the Lord truly wants for their ministry because they are all caught up in "success & prosperity" so that they have become spiritually "blinded" by Satan.

5) Naked — because they, like Adam and Eve did, are trying to spiritually cover themselves with the "fig leaves" of the "Success & Prosperity Gospel" and have not put on the true spiritual clothing of the "Whole Armour Of God".

Rev. 3:18 — "I counsel you to buy from Me the gold tried in the fire that you may be rich, and white raiment that you may be clothed so that the shame of your nakedness does not appear, and anoint your eyes with eye-salve so that you may see."

Here the Lord gives advice and counsel to the "last days" "Success & Prosperity Gospel" Preachers and Christians to take on His true nature, a nature that is pure from sin, even as gold that is purified in the fire. He also counsels them to be clothed in His righteousness — which is the "white raiment" referred to here —that is spoken of as the "white raiment" that the "Bride Of Christ" (the true Church of "born-again" believers) is clothed in in Rev. 19:8. He also admonishes them to "anoint their eyes with spiritual eye salve so they can see" their true spiritual condition.

Rev. 3:19 — "As many as I love I rebuke and chasten so be zealous therefore and repent."

Even though the Lord see that the "last days" "Success & Prosperity Gospel" Churches and Preachers have gotten away from the "True Full-Gospel Message", yet He also knows that the background out of which they have come is the Fundamentalist/Full-Gospel/ Pentecostal/Charismatic Churches (symbolized by the previous Prophetic Church Of Philadelphia) and it is His desire that they "return to their roots" so because He loves them, He rebukes them, and in some cases will even chasten them to try to get them to return to the "Full-Gospel Message" rather than continuing to preach and proclaim the "Success & Prosperity Gospel", so He calls for them to "repent".

Rev. 3:20 — "Behold I stand at the door and knock; if any man hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will fellowship with him and he with Me."

The "door" at which the Lord stands is the "door of the heart", and because He still loves those in the "Success & Prosperity Gospel" Churches, He stands at the door of their heart knocking and asking for true admittance into their lives. It is His desire to enter into them and have true fellowship with them and them with Him.

Rev. 3:21 — "To he that overcomes will I grant to set with Me in My Throne even as I also overcame and am sat down with My Father in His Throne."

As the Lord looks at the "last days" "Success & Prosperity Gospel" Churches and so-called Christians He see that even though most of them do not have a true relationship with Him, yet He also sees that even in the "Success & Prosperity Gospel Churches" that there are some who are truly born-again and Spirit-filled and who truly love Him and are trying to live for Him, and He makes a promise to them that if they live and continue to live an "overcoming life" that in Heaven they will be allowed to "set with Christ in His Throne" and will also share "rule and reign with Him" in His future 1000-year Millennial Reign on the Earth.

Rev. 3:22 — "He that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the Churches."

As I conclude this series on the "Seven Churches Of Rev. 2-3", let me admonish you to listen to what the Holy Spirit is saying to you through these seven messages which I have expounded on in these seven articles on the "Seven Churches" in these "End-Times Trumpet" articles. The Lord loves you and He wants to see you in Heaven and He wants you to be ready to meet Him when He comes in the event of the "Rapture Of The Church", so pay attention and listen to what the Spirit is saying to the Churches!
